Brandon G. Bennett, DNP, RN, CNS, CNOR, CEN, NE-BC

Leadership

Brandon Bennett is an experienced healthcare consultant with expertise in interim operations and executive leadership. He has held a myriad of positions including Chief Operating Officer and Interim Chief Nursing Officer. His work consistently produces improved patient and organizational outcomes. His extensive consultation experience encompasses varying clinical specialties providing process analysis and improvement recommendations. Brandon integrated his professional passion and business skills in 2005 by forming Brandon G. Bennett, LLC, a business engaged in facilitating healthcare transitions.

Focus & Goals:

His focus is working with clients to identify the most efficient, effective, and innovative methods to operate and staff their departments while meeting, or exceeding, national standards and expectations. Using his expertise, Brandon facilitates opportunities to incorporate best practice behaviors and system strategies into departments' development plans.

Experience:
Emergency & Trauma

Brandon previously worked in emergency and trauma nursing for sixteen years in a wide variety of positions including ED Staff Nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, Educator, Director, and Consultant. From 1999 to 2000, he led one emergency department, with an annual census of 38,000 patients, through a physical renovation project. In 2000 to 2001, he led another emergency department through a work redesign, interim physical expansion design, future physical replacement proposal project and proposal for a comprehensive emergency department information system.

Experience:
Peri-Operative

From 1983 to 1991, he worked in perioperative nursing in a variety of positions including OR Staff Nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Educator, Director, and Consultant. In 1987 Brandon participated in the opening of an operating room suite and simultaneously planned for the transition of a medical center surgical suite to a new facility. Opening the new facility in 1988, he was responsible for the redesign of workflow and processes necessary to efficiently operate a modern, state-of-the-art regional medical center surgical department for the United States Air Force. Brandon was recognized by AORN in 1984 for being the first graduate-level student to propose clinical research in perioperative nursing.

Experience:
Informatics

In 1985 Brandon began working with computer projects and was responsible for the successful implementation of an integrated scheduling, staffing, inventory, case cart and statistical application in the perioperative setting. In 1988 he facilitated a beta-site implementation of a supply management program for the Department of Defense and utilized this application to successfully integrate supply tracking and case carts. In 1997 Brandon was responsible for the acquisition and implementation of an emergency department information system and its beta-site transition to web-enabled format for patient tracking.

Experience:
Professional Activities & Engagements

Since the mid-80's, he has spoken at various conferences on topics related to perioperative and emergency care. His presentations cover such diverse topics as "Burn Management: Strategies for Improved Outcomes", "Emergency Nursing Competency: A Sequence for Success", and "Perioperative Nursing in the Ambulatory Care Setting". His audiences are equally varied but have consistently high remarks for each presentation. In addition, Brandon has participated or provided leadership support for many different American Heart Association programs over the last eighteen years.

Healthcare Education:

Brandon was a National Science Foundation scholar and completed his first healthcare certification program while in high school. He then completed an undergraduate degree at Brown University in preparation for his generic nursing program at Rhode Island College. He then completed the Master of Science in Nursing degree at Rush University College of Nursing. In 2012, Brandon completed the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Simmons College. His focus was in perioperative nursing leadership and his research investigated implementation of evidence based practice in the perioperative setting.
